Your Excellency,

The case of Mrs. Mao Hengfeng has come to my attention through Amnesty

International. Due to her work defending women’s reproductive rights and

victims of forced eviction and her support of human rights defenders, Mrs. Mao

Hengfeng has been repeatedly imprisoned and also repeatedly tortured.

I would like to appeal to your Excellency to release Mao Hengfeng immediately

and unconditionally.

I would also like to call on your Excellency to order a full and impartial

investigation into the torture and other ill-treatment that Mao Hengfeng has

suffered in custody, and bring those responsible to justice.

I would also like to entreat your Excellency to guarantee that Mao Hengfeng and

other human rights defenders will be free to carry out their peaceful and

legitimate activities without fear of arbitrary detention or harassment.
